The University of Playa Ancha is a public university that provides undergraduate, university-level and postgraduate technical training, which is linked to the environment and is committed to the social, economic and cultural development of the Valparaíso region and the country.

As a state entity, it privileges the social sense, the intangible heritage, accumulating tradition and pedagogical experience, which arose at the time of its creation, when it was founded as the Valparaíso Pedagogical Institute in 1948. It offers 49 careers and programs in different areas of knowledge. Its regional presence is also projected in the Aconcagua Valley, with a modern campus in the city of San Felipe, which has been in operation since 1991.

It has eight faculties. In these, 49 undergraduate programs and eight technical careers are taught in Valparaíso and nine in San Felipe. The faculties are: Art, Humanities, Educational Sciences, Natural and Exact Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences and Sciences of Physical Activity and Sports. In the training of postgraduates, professionals and technicians, quality is privileged and it is oriented so that its graduates manage to adapt to diverse and dynamic contexts through a humanistic, analytical, critical and creative profile.

The generation of knowledge is understood in its broadest concept of research, development and innovation and artistic creation as a means of cultural development. In this context, a qualitative and quantitative leap is projected in the generation of scientific knowledge materialized in the creation of the Center for Advanced Studies. A consolidated academic seal distinguishes and projects the University of Playa Ancha as an entity historically committed to education.
