The Universidad de los Andes is a civil institution of Christian inspiration that carries out its non-profit teaching, research and assistance activities.

It was founded in 1989, in Santiago de Chile, by a group of academics and professionals who, inspired by the teachings of Saint Josemaría, founder of Opus Dei, promoted a new educational project open to people of all religious creeds, based on the cultivation of of a superior knowledge, the integral education of the students, the diffusion of the knowledge to the society and the vocation of permanence in time.

It is accredited by the National Accreditation Commission in the 5 areas: Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching, Research, Links with the environment and Institutional Management. Since 2019 he has been a member of CRUCH. 

It has 9,000 students studying in one of the 28 undergraduate careers in the areas of humanities, engineering and health, and 11 baccalaureate programs. In the postgraduate program, which includes doctoral, master and medical specialties programs, it has more than 1,500 students. Its unique campus also includes the Universidad de los Andes Clinic, the CiiB (Center for Research and Biomedical Innovation) and the ESE Business School. In addition, in the Commune of San Bernardo he promoted the development of the Universidad de los Andes Health Center.

its vision is to be a center of excellence, characterized by its openness to the cultural and value challenges of society, and a desire to respond to them with innovative solutions. It aims for its professors, alumni and students to be central actors in linking the University with society. 

The University has a significant number of international agreements with universities around the world and houses different Research Centers and Institutes, which deploy their research work in different areas of knowledge at the service of society. In recent years it has experienced strong growth in Continuing Education courses and diplomas.
