The objective of the TES program is the training of high-level researchers trained to identify and relate the natural and social components located territorially, integrating interdisciplinary some problems that have come to constitute main lines of scientific research, such as socio-natural risks and vulnerabilities and sustainability of the regional and local development; territorial dynamics that explain the problems of inequity and socio-spatial inequalities, and ways and experiences of life and living in human settlements. It is planned to train researchers who develop innovative and integrated knowledge, contribute to the development of socio-environmentally sustainable and less vulnerable territories, that promote social, gender and ethnic equity, and that are inspired by an ethics and public commitment with a view to unveiling critically the socio-spatial conflicts and their implications in inhabiting the territory.

Applicant Profile

The program calls for professionals and graduates of disciplines who participate in the production and application of knowledge about the spatiality of natural and social components whose interrelationships build urban and rural territories and places. It looks for candidates interested in developing research that tries to look critically at the territorial problems faced in the country or region and propose innovative ways of approaching them both theoretically and methodologically. In the same way, it proposes to train professionals who stand out for their interest in working interdisciplinary in the development of their research.

Specifically it seeks:
1.- Reflective, analytical and critical capacity that allows opening up to research horizons and the creation of new knowledge.
2.- Abilities to communicate and present their ideas with boldness and clarity.
3.- Knowledge of contingent issues related to the subjects that fall within the Program, as well as the contexts that facilitate their interpretation and explanation.
4.- Competence in the areas related to the program.
5.- Interest in integrating interdisciplinary research teams.

Graduate profile

The training of researchers under interdisciplinary approaches and the consolidation of an inclusive space for reflection with a local foundation, national vision and international ties, is essential for the development of the Chilean academy, but above all to strengthen critical capacity in view of the transformations future that the country needs to carry out in order to reduce socio-spatial inequalities as a source of vulnerabilities and various risks.
Graduates of the program will have a solid theoretical-conceptual and instrumental training that allows them to investigate with different emphases, problems from an interdisciplinary perspective that manages to address territorial problems in an integrated way from a spatial and social perspective, so that they have the following competencies :
1.-Ability to generate new knowledge and develop research autonomously in the field of territorial studies with an emphasis on the social and spatial, in theoretical and methodological terms.
2.-Ability to design theoretical strategies for research on territorial issues.
3.- Ability to develop methodological strategies and use and design research tools to cover and study emerging issues.
4.- Knowledge and complete understanding of the implications and ethical principles of research in territorial, spatial and societal studies.
5.- Aptitudes to establish academic relationships with researchers from other professions and nationalities and develop or participate in interdisciplinary and cross-cultural research programs.
6.- Skills and ability to disseminate their scientific contributions through publications in indexed journals, participation in congresses and other scientific instances for the dissemination of research results.
