The general objective of the Doctoral program in Social Sciences at the University of Tarapacá is to train graduates of excellence through interdisciplinary research, which integrates the production of methodological and theoretical knowledge in the state of the art of social sciences, considering gender mainstreaming, for the study of social problems associated with regional, national, cross-border and territorial spheres. Its work is projected towards the Central-South Andean area of the continent, seeking to link critical reflection with theoretical impact and in this way influence public policies that contribute to the sustainable development of the territory.

Applicant Profile

Within the framework of institutional regulations and considering regional demand, the applicant must: i) have a Bachelor's degree or a professional degree awarded by an institution of higher education, whose level of study content is equivalent to that necessary for obtain a bachelor's degree, ii) Optional: be in possession of a Master's degree, or equivalent, in a discipline of the social sciences or related, or demonstrate an incipient scientific productivity, according to any of the research lines of the program.

Graduate profile

The profile of the graduate of the PhD program in Social Sciences is that of an autonomous researcher to produce creative, original studies, with social, cultural, political and gender relevance, and with potential impact on global theoretical discussions from a perspective situated in the cross-border context, enriched by interdisciplinary dialogue with the different knowledge of the social sciences.
Through the training in the program, the graduate doctors acquire theoretical and methodological elaboration skills (qualitative and / or quantitative), along with critical skills for performance in the university academic environment and in the development of research projects with local impact, on topics such as cross-border relations, governance, education and paradiplomacy.
