goals

The general objective is to prepare researchers capable of analyzing the discourses that sustain contemporary culture and society from a perspective of disciplinary confluence and intersections, being able to develop original research that results in a Doctoral Thesis.
As specific objectives it seeks:
a) Analyze the main types of discourses present in contemporary culture, with inter / transdisciplinary approaches.
b) Apply theories and categories of analysis of discursive and cultural phenomena corresponding to the areas of linguistics, literature, communication, education, philosophy, sociology, anthropology and / or history.
c) Develop research and communicate its results through conference presentations, articles and / or book chapters.

Applicant Profile

The general admission criteria to the Doctoral Programs are governed by the General Regulations for Doctoral Programs of the Austral University of Chile, which in its title IV Article 9 establishes as a general requirement to be in possession of an academic degree in accordance with the provisions in current legislation.
According to the same Regulation, applicants who have studied abroad must present their academic background through official documentation issued by the academic institution of origin. In qualified cases, a Spanish language proficiency test may be required. Applications to the postgraduate programs of the Austral University of Chile are made directly through an online application platform. Applicants must present the following documents:
1.-Certificate that accredits Master's Degree and / or Bachelor's Degree.
2.-Academic-professional curriculum.
3.-Concentration of undergraduate and Master's notes (if applicable).
4.-Personal letter supporting your application.
5.-Letter of recommendation from two prestigious Chilean or foreign academics who endorse their application.
6.-Presentation of the Thesis Project to be carried out during the Doctorate according to the format downloadable from the website.
7.-Photocopy of Identity Document (Identity Card / Passport).
Once the antecedents have been analyzed, the shortlisted applicant is called for an interview, carried out by the Doctoral Program Committee.
The acceptance or rejection of applications for admission to the Program is made by the Directors of the Graduate Schools in accordance with the proposals of the Program Committees.

Graduate profile

The doctors who graduate from this program are characterized by the ability to produce, with an inter / transdisciplinary approach, their own and original knowledge about sociocultural realities in which various discursive modalities and cultural practices come into play in the construction and the functioning of narratives that, in turn, modify the material conditions that make those same narratives possible. Likewise, with the capacity to carry out problematized empirical studies to the point of making visible, in a critical and theoretical way, the logics of significance that are transposed behind the facts or the data.

Lines of investigation

The research lines of the Program are inscribed and supported by an inter-transdisciplinary work matrix that integrates methodological and epistemological areas that are transversal to the diversity and specificity of each investigative process. Within this matrix, the Program integrates the interfaces of four lines of research with various focuses in the areas of research in the field of Human Sciences, namely:
1) Society, Historicity and territorialities;
2) Social communication, interculturality and educational processes;
3) Language, visualities and aesthetic practices and;
4) Contemporary thought and ideologies.
