The executive vice president of CRUCH, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, appreciated the initiative that will address various areas of educational work and assured that "we are going to do our best to contribute."
The president of the Upper House, Yasna Provoste, stated that "it seemed to us this was a moment for the Senate to revalidate an important dialogue between higher education and the Legislative Power."
"We see a very significant opportunity," said the executive vice president of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities, the rector of the University of Santiago, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, after the new president of the Senate, Yasna Provoste, summoned the CRUCH and others institutions of higher education to a work table, at the end of their first work meeting this Thursday, March 18.
Rector Zolezzi highlighted the call by the president of the Senate, stating that Senator Provoste "has been permanently interested in education issues." Regarding his expectations around the work table, the executive vice president of CRUCH expressed his satisfaction because he addresses “concerns that are fundamental”.
“We are going to do our best to contribute. It is a table that is not limited to a particular topic, it touches on science, pedagogy, university development, the adjustments that must be made to the current legislation on higher education. We are available for everything that has to be worked, ”said the rector of the University of Santiago.
For her part, the president of the Senate said that "it seemed to us that this was a moment for the Senate to revalidate an important dialogue between higher education and the Legislative Power."
The parliamentarian added that “we have committed to a work table that is in charge of collecting the needs in legislative matters that have been derived as a result of the implementation of laws such as the Higher Education Law; funding concerns; and the concerns that also assist the Chilean Academy of Sciences, in the loss of scientific talents in our country due to lack of commitment in these matters ”.
In addition, the president of the Upper House appreciated the joint work with the universities and thanked "the commitment of our institutions in moments as complex as those that we have been living in our country regarding the pandemic." He stressed that "our universities have been deployed in the country to support the health system."

The announcement of this working table was made after a meeting led by the president of the Senate and in which the rectors who make up the Executive Committee of CRUCH were also: Ennio Vivaldi, rector of the University of Chile and president of the Consortium of Universities the State of Chile (CUECH); Patricio Sanhueza, rector of the U. de Playa Ancha and president of the Association of Regional Universities (AUR); Darcy Fuenzalida, rector of the Federico Santa María Technical University; Osvaldo Corrales, rector of the University of Valparaíso; and Eduardo Silva, rector of the U. Alberto Hurtado; accompanied by the general secretary of the Council, María Elena González.
Telematically, Ignacio Sánchez, rector of the Catholic University and alternate executive vice president of CRUCH; Diego Durán, rector of the Universidad Católica del Maule and president of the G9 Network of Non-State Public Universities; and Eduardo Hebel, rector of the U. de La Frontera.
The meeting was also attended by the president of the Chilean Academy of Sciences, María Cecilia Hidalgo; the vice president of the Senate, Jorge Pizarro; the President of the Future Challenges Commission, Senator Guido Girardi, the President of the Education Commission, Senator Jaime Quintana; and Senators Carlos Montes and Rabindranath Quinteros.
