The vice president of the Council of Rectors, Rector Aldo Valle, announced that those who could not take the University Selection Tests in Mathematics, Language and Communication or the Science Test this week, will be able to do so on January 27 and 28.

The CRUCH also announced that, despite the unanimous opinion of the convenience and importance of applying the History, Geography and Social Sciences Test, it will not be applied in the 2020 Admission Process for reasons of technical, logistical, territorial and public security.

Those who require the score of this evaluation to apply, will be assigned instead the best score they have in any of the other selection factors.

The vice president of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), Rector Aldo Valle, announced the courses of action that will be applied to continue with the 2020 Admission Process.

This, after the suspension of 86 application venues during the delivery of the University Selection Tests (PSU) and the suspension at the national level of the History, Geography and Social Sciences Test, due to the filtration of the evaluation, reported by the Department of Evaluation, Measurement and Educational Registry (DEMRE) of the University of Chile.

Valle said that "we want to create a favorable condition, in general, without any arbitrariness for all those students who, due to the fault of others, illegal acts, force and violence, could not take the tests."

These situations affected 44,226 people who could not take the Language and Communication PSU (15% of those registered for the evaluation); 37,396 in Science (20% of those enrolled) and 86,571 in Mathematics (29% of the total). Meanwhile, more than 202 thousand applicants had registered to take History, Geography and Social Sciences.

The rector Valle announced that those who could not take the PSU of Mathematics and / or Language and Communication (both mandatory) due to the fact that the campuses were disabled for security reasons, will be able to do so on Monday, January 27. Meanwhile, applicants who for the same reasons did not take the Science Test (elective) may take it on Tuesday, January 28.

"We want to summon all those applicants to take these tests and of course we will do so by adopting all the precautions of the case, so that it is not possible - from within - to provoke all these disorders," said Valle. He added that “the call is to those young people who still want to prevent other young people from taking this test, because the damage done to them is enormous. And it can be irreversible in the biography of those people ”.

The rector of the University of Valparaíso also assured that “we have agreed with the Undersecretary of Higher Education, Juan Eduardo Vargas, to coordinate all the necessary efforts to guarantee that there are perimeter fences and all preventive measures so that people can perform in peace and safety these tests. The efforts will be much greater to avoid that nobody is exposed to the threat, to the impatience, to the outrage that we must condemn ”.

History Test

Regarding the History, Geography and Social Sciences Test (elective), despite the unanimous opinion of the convenience and importance of applying it, it will not be given for reasons of technical, logistical, territorial and public safety unfeasibility.

The CRUCH authority stated that “for reasons of force majeure, and given the acts of violence, insecurity and the risk to the physical integrity of the people that unfortunately was appreciated this week and the situation in the country, that proof will not be able to be taken in this admission process ”.

Those who require the score of this evaluation to apply, will be assigned instead the best score they have in any of the other selection factors, whether it corresponds to the PSU of Language and Communication, Mathematics or Sciences; the High School Notes (NEM) or the Ranking of Notes.

Valle also referred to criticism against the PSU and the admission process. “Chile is a country that has had an admission system for several decades and that has undoubtedly responded to the principles of transparency, objectivity, of recognizing merit and avoiding discretion and that higher education can only be entered through contacts or other factors. The admission system cannot fully take care of the structural asymmetries of Chilean education ”, he stated.

Delivery of results and applications

In this scenario, the results of the applications will be known on Monday, March 9. From that day until March 19, the two enrollment periods will take place.

"We have adjusted this calendar so that it does not have a major, serious or significant delay with respect to other years, also understanding that many of the universities are closing their academic semesters in March or April," Valle said.

These courses of action were defined during the ordinary session No. 610 of the Council of Rectors, held at the Hotel San Francisco, in Santiago. Two new members of the plenary session participated in the meeting for the first time: the rector of the University of Los Andes, José Antonio Guzmán, who joined CRUCH in December; and the rector of the U. Arturo Prat, Alberto Martínez, who recently assumed said rectory.
