CRUCH gives unanimous support to Red G9 and maintains that new legislation should recognize their contributions to the public function

Through a letter addressed to the President of the G9 Non-State Public Universities Network, Rector Claudio Elórtegui, “the members of the Council of Rectors broadly share the unequivocal conviction that the G9 universities have historically contributed to the development of higher education in the country, scientific research and culture in all its manifestations ”.

The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities unanimously expressed its support for Non-State Public Universities G9, considering that the bill to reform higher education, recently entered into Parliament, does not recognize the public contribution of the schools that make up the G9 Network.

The CRUCH, through its Executive Vice President, Rector Aldo Valle, sent a formal letter to the President of the G9 Network, Rector Claudio Elórtegui, where it is stated that “the members of the Council of Rectors widely share that the G9 universities have historically contributed to the development of higher education in the country, scientific research and culture in all its manifestations ”.

In the same sense, the rectors revealed that the non-state universities of the CRUCH “have made a valuable contribution to the public function that must be recognized by the new legislation and the policies that will be implemented in the future as a consequence of the reform of the public service system. higher education". For the same reason, the letter states that “these universities should not be treated in the same way as the private universities created after 1981, especially in terms of institutional contributions that should ensure their development. Attended the social and symbolic validation that Chilean society has attributed to it ”.

In addition, the letter raises "a desire for mutual recognition based on the diversity of institutions that make up the Council of Rectors, all for the benefit of the common good and national objectives for a better higher education in the country."

The letter, dated August 18, 2016, was sent in response to the request for a formal endorsement statement made by the G9 Network to the Council of Rectors at the end of July. The matter was analyzed by the plenary session of the Council of Rectors in its monthly session in July and, subsequently, evaluated by the Executive Committee of CRUCH.
