"With this decision, the Council of Rectors wants to contribute to a greater institutionalization of the admission processes in the country's higher education system," said the Executive Vice President of the Council of Rectors, Aldo Valle. Until Monday, April 25, private universities that wish to apply to join the Single Admission System will have a deadline.
The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities announced the three basic criteria that private universities that wish to join the CRUCH Single Admission System must meet to participate in the 2017 Admission Process.
The executive vice president of the Council of Rectors and rector of the University of Valparaíso, Aldo Valle, pointed out that “with this decision, the Council of Rectors wants to contribute to a greater institutionalization of the admission processes in the country's higher education system, ensuring because the application and selection of students responds to the principles of transparency and impartiality and, at the same time, because the admission processes are based on the recognition of the merit and performance of the students, considering their respective educational environments ”, he pointed out.
Regarding the criteria, Valle explained that “the first refers to the fact that the institutions must meet the standard set forth in Law 20,890 with respect to accreditation for a specified period since their controllers, as appropriate, are natural or legal persons without profit. The second criterion, meanwhile, establishes that the institutions must commit to full compliance with the rules and procedures of the Single Admission System, as well as the agreements of the Council of Rectors referring to the Admission Process. Finally, the third criterion states that the institutions must demonstrate compatibility of their institutional mission and vision with the principles of the Single Admission System of the Council of Rectors ”, said Valle.
These criteria were agreed in the session of the Council of Rectors at the end of March and were specified in the Executive Committee on Monday, April 11.
Considering these criteria, all universities that wish to participate in the Single Admission System for the 2017 Admission Process must send a letter of application to the Council of Rectors, until Monday, April 25.
The applications received will be submitted to the decision of the plenary session of the Council of Rectors in its session of April 28 and, during the first week of May, a formal communication will be sent to the universities with the acceptance or rejection of their application.
It should be remembered that in April 2011 the CRUCH opened the admission system and invited all private universities to participate. The eight universities that have been attached since then are the following: Diego Portales University, Mayor University, Finis Terrae University, Andrés Bello University, Adolfo Ibáñez University, Los Andes University, Development University and Alberto Hurtado University.
