The activity will institute the 'ULagos Inclusion Recognition' that celebrates and values the work carried out by the inclusion of people with disabilities.
This December 09, 10 and 11 will be held the 'II FRANCO-LATIN AMERICAN CONGRESS / COLLOQUIUM OF RESEARCH IN DISABILITIES'. The activity is organized by the University of Los Lagos in conjunction with the Disability and Society Program of the School of Higher Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS, France) and the National Higher Institute of Training and Research for the Education of Disabled and Adapted Young People for Teaching (INS HEA, France). The activity is sponsored by CONICYT, the National Disability Service (SENADIS) and the Senate Extension Center.
The Congress / Colloquium, whose first version was held in 2014 at the Paris V Rene Descartes University (France), tries to promote the development of research and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of disability, in addition to promoting the activation of networks and the exchange between French and Latin American researchers to enrich research perspectives and consider international collaboration.
“For the first time, world-class specialists are meeting in Chile to reflect on disability, its historical exclusion, and progress in inclusion strategies and the strengthening of their rights. If we consider that 15% of the world population is in a situation of disability, and this number is progressively increasing, the issues that we address at this meeting should be a priority in the countries' agendas ”, points out Débora Gálvez, General Coordinator of the meeting.
In its second edition, the Congress / Colloquium calls for reflection on the "Body and Disability: tensions and convergences". The 'disability' reveals how the symbolic inscription of the social is created in the bodies, and how it turns into social inequality. People with disabilities share conditions of existence marked by marginalization and exclusion derived from the imputation of the 'deficiency'. Thus, disability is a privileged object of study to observe how arbitrary and historical relationships are naturalized in and through the body. This is where the theoretical and conceptual approaches to disability from the humanities and social sciences have much to contribute.
More than a hundred papers were received, with 107 being accepted, which were evaluated by an international scientific committee.
The academic event is also a propitious instance to start the delivery of the 'ULagos Inclusion Recognition'. The award comes to value and celebrate those organizations or people that work towards the inclusion of people with disabilities. There will be three categories: Contribution in the field of communication and dissemination of inclusion; Private management for inclusion; Outstanding person of the year.
