Rector of the University of Valparaíso and Executive Vice President of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities stated that "today we know if we go from the discourse, if we go from the promise, to the materialization of a political will", regarding the announcement of the bill of Budgets 2016.
There is expectation around the announcement that President Michelle Bachellet will make tonight of the 2016 Budget Bill. And one of the most anticipated topics is the budget for higher education. In this regard, Aldo Valle, rector of the University of Valparaíso and executive vice president of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities, stated that it is "a very important milestone", because "we are going to find out what resources the State will finally to commit to expanding opportunities for higher education, and of course for all the universities of the Council of Rectors, which represent the public offer that exists in higher education in the country, the university system that must be supported by the State and public policy , it seems to me, without reservation ”.
Within the framework of the UV Expo, in which the University of Valparaíso reported on its academic offer for 2016, Valle said that “we are confident that today we are going to hear great news: we take a leap in public policy, the most concrete that governments must give, which is to commit, effectively, public resources. Today we know if we go from the discourse, if we go from the promise, to the materialization of a political will, not only of the government, but also of the political coalition by which this government is sustained and supported ”.
The rector added: “Our expectation is that today we take a great leap. And if this were not the case, we would really be facing a very uncomfortable situation for everyone, because the social and political legitimacy of a necessary reform for the country is at risk: that higher education is effectively an instrument, a substantive platform for economic development and social, may or may not have a substantive response today. And our expectation is that this response is positive ”.
For this reason, he added, “we will be attentive, and tomorrow, with all certainty, we will be able to talk again about what that response was, at least in the gross figures, because we are not going to have the specific figures today. On Monday we already have a meeting scheduled with the Division of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, precisely now to disaggregate the information and gross figures that go into the Ministry of Education's heading ”.
