Council of Rectors meets with new Minister of Education

 On the occasion, the Secretary of State indicated that he will enforce the law that prevents profit in universities.

 The Executive Committee of the Council of Rectors and the recently appointed Minister of Education, Felipe Bulnes, held a first meeting to review all the issues of higher education that had already been worked on, based on the announcements of the President of the Republic, regarding to contents and in terms of deadlines. 

 
This was the first meeting that the Secretary of State held on his work schedule, just 60 hours after taking office.
 
The vice president of the Council and rector of the University of Chile, Víctor Pérez, affirmed that, in accordance with the agreement with Minister Bulnes, the idea is, in the short term, to work on the subject of Credit with State Guarantee and the Solidarity Fund , and then move forward on the complete change in student funding; grants and scholarships; on the subject of the Superintendency of Higher Education; the strengthening of the institutions of the Council of Rectors to be able to continue being universities that carry out research and teaching at the highest level; the new treatment of the State and state universities and associated baseline contributions.
 
"This is a meeting that seeks to give continuity to what has already been advanced and we have a tremendous challenge because this can change the face of education in Chile," Minister Bulnes said at the end of the meeting.
 
Regarding the joint work agenda, it will be defined once the Minister finishes his round of meetings with the different representatives of education.
